Phase II – Gathering Information
We can’t think of another time when so much information has been available by solution providers: white papers, checklists, rich schedules of webcasts and on-demand videos to aid you in the education and information gathering phase of your journey.
In Phase I of the Nonprofit Software Selection Journey, we talked about developing a vision of your future ideal state in addition to listing the challenges you face today that should be addressed by the software. We provided a comprehensive checklist to use as your guide.
Your ideal future state will probably include the ability to monitor your organization’s performance through Outcome Metrics. Outcome Metrics are derived by carefully defining outcome indicators, data-collection methods, analytic techniques, and presentation vehicles that collectively show a rich picture of organizational performance. It’s the way in which you demonstrate accountability and transparency.
To that end, we offer the white paper “Outcome Metrics: Measuring What Matters in the Nonprofit World” for you to download – simply click on the image on the right. If you scroll to the end of this page there will be additional resources and links as well.
How you go about this phase is up to you. You may prefer to go through this phase on your own – sampling information and beginning to get a feel for what you wish to explore in greater detail. On the other hand, you may wish to move directly to Phase III and partner with a professional to help you pull together the information with your selection process.
